Another "holy crap!" moment

After investigating a couple readers who had clicked in via a Google search for "ethanol lobby", I was floored to see that The Ergosphere has the #1 hit for that phrase.

How the hell did that happen?!

What's depressing is that my polemic gets lots of links, but more technical pieces like the one on carbon cycles and sustainabilty that's coming in the next few days will probably reach few readers.  I still strive for quality at the detail level, but it's sad that the public at large appreciates it little and understands it even less.

Update 10/13:  "Scamwatch:  Steorn" is the #1 hit for "is steorn a scam?" on Google.com.mx.

All of this is determined by link counts.  I'm utterly flabbergasted to see the stock some people put in what I write.  I hope to be worthy of it.

Comments:
I for one appreciate your level of detail and looking at energy issues in a broader light. It has given me more ideas and data to work into a long term plan. I have tried to share info that I find with others but if it is not plug and play then interest drops. we all depend on all this energy flow but few really want to know what is involved. And with so much disinformation out there people doubt any info you try to bring into the conversation and the looks you get if your trying to make some changes in your own life.

I second Geoff's comment. I love the level of detail in your posts, and appreciate less the polemic.

2 years ago, I declared my major as Chemical Engineering with the intent to help do something about our energy problems. At the time I had no idea of what exactly that might be (hydrogen economy maybe). I found your blog purely on accident, and thanks to you, I now have a much better and clearer orientation in the energy landscape.

So thanks, and keep it up!

The widespread public disinformation is one reason I write the occasional open letter.  Unlike letters to newspapers, the blog format allows me to back up statements which contradict the prevailing POV with links to facts.  People who got sucked into the propaganda probably got pulled in by slick packaging but never understood the basis (or lack thereof); presenting the evidence to the contrary is about the only thing I can do to counteract the spinmeisters.

I have sent your open letters and a link to your site to people I feel may be open to facts. I think in newspapers the missing links to facts to back up claims is the biggest reason I find little Authority in them and yet I hear people recite what they have heard or seen as fact without checking. I think as time goes on and people that I know will start to question why everything is not working like it used to and may really start to question. Then I can point to some real info and hope it is not too late. Keep up the great work.

I just linked to the carbon cycles/sustainability piece. Great work. And I promise not to link to this one.

I just noticed that my claim of "a few days" was more like a month and a half.  I try to be more accurate with my energy figures than my blog timetables. ;-)
